Employment & Graduate Study of
2009-10 Undergraduate Degree Recipients

The table compares the employment expectation and graduate study expectation benchmarks of undergraduate degree recipients in academic year 2009-10, as indicated by their responses on the Graduating Student Exit survey with actual circumstances of graduates one year later as indicated by Mississippi Longitudinal Data System data. In major areas where there were fewer than 10 graduates, no information is provided due to the possible identification of individual students.

The data in the table suggest that undergraduate degree recipients achieve their expectations vis-à-vis employment in most major areas, particularly given that the Mississippi Longitudinal Data System can capture only those employed in Mississippi and cannot track graduates who obtain employment elsewhere, particularly in technical fields.  That Mississippi focus of the MLDS data also limits the system’s ability to identify those 2009-10 degree recipients who have gone on to graduate-level study in other states; in addition, the data reflect only those degree recipients who have gone more or less directly into graduate school.
